A Suit To Lighten Your Load

If you always end up paying the minimum $50 fee for extra luggage, then you’ll love swim suits that can double as shirts for a poolside brunch. The best way to guarantee you don’t forget your suit is to incorporate it in your getaway wardrobe. Here are my top picks for bathing suits to prance around on land or sea:

Mad Style

With the start of Mad Men’s Sixth Season, I’ve been inspired to highlight some very chic retro fashions. Just take a peek at Banana Republic’s annual collection featuring boxy shells, geometric print dresses, and gingham capris. Wrap a silk scarf around your head for a easy to manage mod do that keeps all pretty faces intriguing and protected from the sun.

Ankle Cuff Shoes

The name might bring to mind the house arrest monitor made famous Martha Stewart, but these shoes have nothing to do with crime. The thick strap acts like an ankle bracelet and provides support so you don’t slip out of your heels. For the trendiest style look for a strap that is at least an inch thick and find the feature on heels and flat sandals. The strap should sprout from the very top of the shoe, if it’s lower it’s just a variation of a Mary Jane.

Orange And Black? I Won’t Take It Back.

Happy Halloween! I tend to stay away from orange and black on most occasions to avoid looking like a whitchy Jack-o’-lantern, but with the brass buttons and the gold notches on the boots it made the Halloween style more doable. I wore this on a mini-trip and the orange sweater was perfect for layering and mixing with jeans and skirts. Plus, with the light wool material was safe to ball up in a suit case knowing that it wouldn’t wrinkle. Although the skirt is short, wearing it with furry lined boots and black tights made it more appropriate for the chilly fall weather.

The New Uggs

This winter you probably won’t find too many sheepskin lined Uggs– the “Ugg-ly” ones men can’t understand– sloshing in the snow. If you thought slippery Uggs were a poor idea for blizzard-like weather what was their unlined knit boot all about? Too high to be a slipper and too odd looking to really match well with anything. And now in their new line of glamour, ranging from equestrian boots to quilted lace-ups, where do the fur cuffed clog boots belong? A wooden heel sounds dangerous with or without inclement weather. Okay, so no one really plans on wearing wood in the snow, but any plant derived material (cork or wood) only works for the sole on summer sandals, on a shoe that allows your foot to breathe. So as sexy as the tall studded sable boots with four inch heel are, I think I’ll have to pass.

What I am loving? The rubber utility heel that has grips and can handle a little slush (if you spray the leather that is). They have expanded their brand to include the old classics and new favorites. If you’re looking for something unique, check out their high-end line made in Italy with snakeskin patterns adorning short and tall boots.

These are my picks:

Calnydra- $180

Conor- $295

Josie II- $295

Piera- $550

**Just be wary of the styling tips for the Dylyn on their website. A regular Ugg boot looks cute and relaxed with denim but not with metallic leggings or a business blazer.

VMAs 2012- Best Dressed

Maria Menouos in Kymerah- She showed some flair with one of the three black leather dresses of the evening– but the only one with a circle skirt. The look proved leather can be ladylike while the bustier top showed off her sexier side. With straight hair and a matching clutch she looked ready to take on the red carpet.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel- Finally branching out in a sexy white pants suit, Taylor looked grown-up and chic. She kept the neckline clean with a sliver of deep cleavage and let the jewels dangle only from her earlobes. Because of the single color she was able to play up her face with a crimson lipstick and smoky brown eyeliner. The ensemble was paired with gladiator gold sandals which made the outfit less business and more rock n’ roll.

Shaun Robinson- I haven’t seen much of Shaun Robinson, but when I typed her name into Google a slew of gorgeous dresses turned up. Her outfit was neither too provocative nor too basic. The jewel covered dress in the complementary peacock color sparkled during interviews. The picture of her is the one on top and from the MTV website.

Amy Paffrath in Agua Dulce- It’s hard to resist a neon lemon dress with rose lace detailing. Instead of an obvious sweetheart neckline the dress formed a point on one side and a line between the bodice and skirt as extra details of interest. She kept the focus on the bright dress with black accessories.

Rihanna in Adam Selman- The Barbados born babe kept it clean in a white, backless number. Although it was a full-length dress, she kept it VMAs appropriate with the knot at the hip like a sarong. The dress also had cute tie accents on the back of both mismatched sleeves. Now with a very close cropped cut she proves no hairstyle or shade is off limits.
